IHG seizes hotels and golf courses in Portugal

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, has purchased five hotels in Portugal.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, has purchased 11 new developments in the Iberian Peninsula, five in Portugal – Staybridge Suites Porto, Staybridge Suites Carcavelos, Six Senses Lisboa, Holiday Inn Express Porto and Holiday Inn Express Évora – and six in Spain.

The company reveals in a press release that the big news for the Portuguese market “is the launch of the IHG Staybridge Suites brand, which will open in the city of Porto and in Carcavelos”. “Most of the new acquisitions are scheduled to open in 2022, with the rest scheduled for 2023, 2024 and 2025,” according to a report by idealista/news.

“I am delighted to announce this significant selection of units in the Iberian Peninsula, a region that has much to offer all types of travellers. Being a fundamental growth market for us and an increasingly sought-after destination, I I am sure that these acquisitions are an investment that will bring us great success,” said Willemijn Geels, vice president of the department for European development of hotels and resorts at IHG.

Golf courses in the Algarve

IHG has also purchased two golf courses in the Algarve.

According to the company, “this investment follows IHG’s recent agreement with its strategic partner JJW Hotels & Resorts, to open three new properties in Portugal later this year.”

“Intended to mark the European debut of the company’s latest Vignette Collection brand, the acquisitions include two famous golf resorts: Penina Resort & Golf and Dona Filipa Hotel, both located in the Algarve. Under the same agreement, the voco hotel brand will enter Portugal, with the opening of voco Algarve scheduled for 2022,” reveals IHG.
