Masters 2022: Louis Oosthuizen abandons before Friday’s second round | Golf News and Tour Information
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tiger Woods will be a playing partner in Friday’s second round of the 86th Masters. Before the 1:41 p.m. tee time, Louis Oosthuizen withdrew from the tournament, leaving Woods and Joaquin Niemann to play as a duo during the afternoon wave.
Tournament officials did not give a reason for the WD of Oosthuizen. The South African, playing in his 14th Masters, struggled in his first round on Thursday, shooting a four-for-76 that included the back nine-for-three play. After hitting his second shot on the par-5 second hole on Thursday, Oosthuizen reached for his lower back with his left hand and TV commentators noted there might have been something wrong. .
Friday’s weather forecast calls for gusty conditions that are already proving a challenge for competitors on Day 2. How Woods and Niemann will handle the conditions, while playing as a duo, is unclear. Coincidentally, the duo ahead of Woods and Niemann is also a duo – Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith – after Paul Casey pulled out before the first round.
Oosthuizen’s best Masters result was a playoff loss to Bubba Watson in 2012.
