Padraig Harrington on seeing LIV Golf players at events: ‘A bit like a Christmas dinner’

Two-time Open Championship winner and one-time PGA Championship winner Padraig Harrington is ready to forget the past when it comes to those who have jumped at LIV Golf.
Harrington spoke to reporters at the JP McManus Pro-Am and said he thinks there’s room for “a lot of touring and a lot of competition” in the world of golf. He added that LIV Golf could be good for the sport – one of the few golfers to have said so.

“Right now there is disruption, no doubt about it, but disruption isn’t bad sometimes,” said the 50-year-old Irishman. through Golf.com. “At the moment, as I said, it looks like the PGA Tour has strengthened its position and the European Tour is strengthening its position. I think there is plenty of room and time will tell.”
Harrington described being with some of his Ryder Cup teammates who hopped on LIV Golf to be at a holiday dinner with family members with differing political views.

“Being here is kind of like a Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner for your family. You might have a brother sitting there and – we’ll Americanize it: you might be Republican; they might be Democrats, but you’re friends at this particular time, and maybe politics isn’t mentioned at the table,” he said. “We’re here for two days, and it’s great to see.”
Harrington was set to compete in the Scottish Open with The Open Championship just around the corner.

Harrington finished tied for 30th at last week’s Irish Open. He finished 7 under par.
