Pair of popular Naples golf courses under renovation | Business Observer

NAPLES – Two premier golf courses in Naples are about to undergo major renovations – the first major upgrade since the courses debuted more than 30 years ago.

Vineyards Country Club, the operator of the 18-hole championship courses, has appointed Kipp Schulties Golf Design to oversee the renovations.

“Our goal is to improve the aesthetics, function and player enjoyment of the South and North Courses over the next few years,” Vineyards Country Club co-owner Michael Procacci Jr. said in a statement. “Kipp Schulties brings a wealth of experience and talent, in keeping with our tradition of member satisfaction, to amplify the overall appeal and recreational playability of our two golf courses while making the adjustments players desire.”

The south course, designed by Bill Amick, will be the first to undergo renovations, in 2023, the statement said. The traditional-style course served as a senior tour stop for five years, hosting the Aetna Challenge, the Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Challenge and the IntelliNet Challenge.

The Mark McCumber-designed North Course, featuring expansive landing areas, rolling greens and a winding footpath, is due to undergo renovations in 2024. The course opened in 1989.

The yardage of both courses will be expanded from the pro tees to improve the layout to a championship level. The greens will be rebuilt and expanded to help accommodate a range of bowling alleys. And the fairways, according to the release, will also be remodeled to improve playability, pace of play and challenging yet enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels.

“We are creating something very special at Vineyards Country Club,” Kipp Schulties said in the statement. “Many clubs don’t have the capacity to do what we plan to do at Vineyards due to lack of space. The finished courses will have lots of modern touches adding character, contour and elevation and providing members with a truly unique golf experience in Southwest Florida.

Procacci estimates that renovations to the South Course will take about nine months, starting around April 2023 and work is expected to be completed by the end of November 2023. Officials aim to begin renovations to the North Course in the spring 2024.

The Vineyards Country Club is a private, 1,400-acre Blue Zones certified, equity-free golf and country club community open to residents and non-residents for over 30 years. The family-friendly community, founded in 1988, sits east of Interstate 75 between Pine Ridge and Vanderbilt Beach roads and includes 2,719 homes in 38 individual gated neighborhoods, a 70,000 square foot clubhouse and 450,000 square feet of commercial space.
