Portage County Area Golf News and Ratings for August 14

VFW Post 9716 in Streetsboro is hosting a golf outing in aid of the VFW Sportsmen’s Club on September 11 at Raccoon Hill Golf Club in Kent.

Outing organizer Chad Brazill of Streetsboro has scheduled a four-way race with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The scramble includes 18 holes, steak lunch and dinner, adult drinks, and awards and prizes. There will also be a silent auction, a 50-50 draw, prizes for the top three teams and individual awards for the longest runs (men’s, women’s, senior) as well as those closest to the pin.

Brooklyn Millard competes in the USGA Women’s Amateur

Aurora’s Brooklyn Millard, who finished second in the 2021 OHSAA Division I State Tournament, wrapped up her summer game at the USGA Women’s Amateur at Chambers Bay Golf Club in Washington State .

Millard missed the cut leading to match play, shooting consecutive rounds 80 for 14 over par. The cut was 4 above normal.

Millard will not play for Aurora this fall. She will attend Mike Bender’s Elite Golf School in Lake Mary, Florida.

Brimfield’s Larry Buck scored a hole-in-one at Tannenhauf Golf Club. He used a 5-iron to land the 167-yard 8th hole on the golf course near Alliance. Buck’s fourth career ace was seen by Billy Perrie, John Nutter and Tony Menich.
