Study reveals the quietest golf courses in the UK

Golf is an increasingly popular pastime, but for the hearing impaired it can be tricky.

Background noise, especially wind, can cause problems with hearing aids, a problem that could discourage the hearing impaired from playing sports.

However, the hearing aid manufacturer resound carried out a study to establish courses in the UK with the least amount of background noise caused by wind.

There are surprising results…

West Sussex Golf Club

One of the most natural courses in the UK, West Sussex has the backdrop of the South Downs. ReSound claims it also has the least amount of background noise from wind, which means it tops the charts.

Royal St. Georges

Surprisingly, link courses feature high on this list despite their windy reputation. Last year’s Open, Royal St George’s, is one of them.

Woodhall Spa

Renovated by renowned architect Tom Doak, Woodhall Spa has been voted the 54th best circuit in the world. It is also the third quietest course in the UK.

The five royal ports

Another links course, the Royal Cinque Ports is a former prestigious venue for the Open. It ranks just below its neighbor Royal St George’s.

Kingsbarns

The first Scottish entry on the list, Kingsbarns is the fifth quietest place for a game, according to ReSound research.

Old Course, St. Andrews

Staying in Fife, just down the coast from Kingsbarns, is the most famous course in the world. Besides hosting this year’s 150th Open, the Old Course has among the lowest amounts of background noise.

Royal Birkdale

Open venues are extremely high on this list, and Royal Birkdale is next. It has hosted a variety of other tournaments including the Ryder Cup.

Carnoustie

Considered by some to be the toughest course in the Open rotation, Carnoustie is known for showing its teeth. But according to ReSound, it’s also one of the quietest courses in the country.

Sunflower

Rounding out ReSound’s list is Turnberry, another former Open venue. It is considered one of the most spectacular courses in the whole of the UK.
