Two new Nebraska golf courses are on the horizon – and generating a lot of buzz | Nebraska News

OMAHA — A “lively frontier” of American golf is a national sight in Nebraska as the state prepares to unveil two more highly anticipated courses this year.

Lost Rail northwest of Gretna and Landmand in northeast Nebraska are planning summer openings.

Landmand will first be tested in tournaments.

The course on the bluff north of Homer has agreed to host two Nebraska Golf Association events, the Nebraska Mid-Amateur in late August and the section qualifier for the US Amateur Four-Ball in October.

“From the beginning of Sweetens Cove, their beloved nine-hole course in Tennessee, everything has been crafted in the name of the game for design duo Rob Collins and Tad King. Although the name is a riff on Lanman, the Danish word for farmer (lan-man), the land itself also deserves marquee billing. Located on rugged terrain in southwestern Nebraska, the site has been compared in its scale and wilderness to an inland Cruden Bay. Adding to the good news: although Landmand has a group of founding members, most of his time will be spent in public play.

His take on Lost Rail: “Nebraska is a bustling frontier of American golf, but many of its marquee courses, including Sand Hills, the Prairie Club and Dismal River, are remote. Lost Rail is 30 minutes from downtown Omaha. Designed by former Fazio Design partner Scott Hoffman, the routing traverses a landscape that ranges from rolling pastures to steep ravine-carved terrain. A note: going to the course is not the same thing as registering for it. Lost Rail will be private.

Tim Gavrich from Golfpass.com Landmand said gives Collins/King fans a first chance to see what the duo can do with an 18-hole course.

“Few golf courses have had such a high-profile pre-opening as Landmand, with its bold design compared to that of Sand Hills, the course in Nebraska now considered the largest built since World War II.” , wrote Gavrich. “Landmand will be public, and when it opens in mid-22, expect the holds to fly furiously.”

Last year, CapRock Ranch launched what should be considered the second wave of memorable golf courses in the state. The first wave was the Sand Hills Golf Club and those it originally spawned – Wild Horse, Dismal River and Prairie Club.

Golf Digest named CapRock Ranch, which sits southwest of Valentine and adjacent to the Prairie Club, as its best new private course of 2021.

On the horizon is a course north of Maxwell offered by Dormie Network, based in Lincoln and with ArborLinks in Nebraska City as one of its properties.
