Winner’s Circle: Dustin Johnson Scores Thrilling OT Victory at LIV Golf Boston
Bolton, Mass. – Dustin Johnson shot a 65 on Sunday, then edged out Anirban Lahiri and Joaquin Niemann on the first hole of the playoffs to claim his first LIV Golf Invitational Series title at the Boston stoppage.
The 38-year-old American finished his final day at The International’s Oaks with six birdies against a bogey to reach under-15 par, and tied for the lead with Niemann and Lahiri.
Playing the par-5 18th hole in overtime, Johnson launched his drive down the middle, then hit his second shot — a 230-yard strip — about 50 feet out. Niemann had already come out with a par, but Lahiri had thrown about five feet and was looking at a very doable birdie. Johnson apparently needed a two-putt birdie to force a second playoff hole with the Indian, but instead his ball hit dead center, popped in the air and fell for an eagle and the victoire.
The crowd went ballistic.
The victory netted Johnson $4,000,000 along with an additional $750,000 for winning the tag team competition for the third time.
For his first LIV golf title, Johnson won a check for $4 million while adding another $750,000 for being part of the GC 4 Aces that won their third consecutive tag team title.

3 Questions: Dustin Johnson
Q. Where does this tournament victory fit for you?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: This is a great victory. Obviously we have a big field, a lot of big players. Yeah, it sure is up there.
The fans were amazing today, and then obviously getting the team win too, that’s just a big bonus, just because at one point I think we were on 12 starts, I was playing with Talor and there was a ranking. I think we were four standing backs out of 12 starts. We had, whatever, seven holes to play.
But all the guys, I know they all look at the standings, so we all pulled together really hard to get another win, and I think that says a lot about the team.
We also finished very well in Bedminster, and all four of us have to play well if we want to win, especially on Sunday when you have three scores. So that was good, and obviously for me I wanted to finally get my first win here, especially I feel like I had a really good chance to win every week, but I didn’t play as well on Sunday that I ‘I would like too. But played great today and finally got the first W.
Q. Were competitive juices flowing as much as they ever have?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Absolutely, if not more, especially with this check you get. You can feel it. Your asshole puckers up a bit going down the last holes for sure.
Q. Can you tell us about the eagle putt?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, I mean, I felt like we had a really good read on it. I maybe hit him a little harder than I wanted to, but as soon as I hit him I was like, whoa, and then it was on a good line, and I was like, hit the hole, hit the hole, hit the hole, and he got in somehow. I think the hole is recessed for sure.
Yeah, I mean, I felt like it definitely owed me one, especially in regulation, I felt like I hit a really good tee shot, took a bad rebound, just rolled in the rough. I was playing smart just laying short left and grabbed a huge jumper and went up the trees and did a really good 5 to get into the playoffs. Obviously, I hit a really good drive and a nice second in there to give myself a chance and make the putt. It wasn’t exactly how I wanted him to come in, but he came in.
